Method and sources

VO2max = (metres in 12 minutes - 504.9) / 44.73 · mL/kg/min

Cooper 1968 estimated VO2max from a 12-minute field test in 115 male Air Force personnel. This is a field estimate, not a lab measurement or diagnosis. The comparison uses saved 2015 FRIEND treadmill norms for US adults aged 20-79, in the source men/women categories; values between published percentiles are linearly interpolated. Applying laboratory percentiles to a field estimate adds uncertainty. The 2015 edition is retained explicitly, not presented as current norms. A maximal test is strenuous; use a supervised assessment if health or readiness is uncertain.
